But Will There Be Cake? On the Occasion of my Birthday..
There’s very little air left
No one to hear my yell
My breaths come loud as thunder
I pray there’s still a bell *
They’re much too busy dancing
I pull and pull the string.
"It’s what she would have wanted!"
And then they start to sing.
Perhaps as they get drunker-
The songs get sad and low
They’ll hear the faint bell peeling
From somewhere down below
I've always liked a party
Surprise ones- the best kind
I TOLD you too- but this was
Not what I had in mind.

Anna Païdoussi
“Were there really bells in front of tombstones and attached to buried bodies via a string? YES.
Fear of being buried alive was a serious enough issue (Victorian age) that there were a good number of patents on the subject.
These were known as Safety Coffins.
The coffins contained a string attached to a bell and usually a breathing tube that could be opened by someone buried alive.
And this is where the term “saved by the bell” came from.”
